Creating something with your hands is a fantastic feeling. It starts with an idea, a vague image in my head of the artwork I want to create. I translate that image into a concrete plan to make my idea a reality. Then the real work begins: from painting the canvas, to sawing, sanding and assembling. It is precisely this complexity and diversity that makes it so incredibly beautiful for me. With every brushstroke, every saw cut, every thread of rope, I see my idea slowly coming to life.

My passion for art was further ignited during my studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leuven, Belgium. My travels and experiences living on different continents have greatly broadened my horizons and inspired my artwork. This has made me even more aware of the power of making a connection with people, and what could be more beautiful than to create that connection through art? Art evokes emotions, brings up feelings and offers endless food for conversation. And then, at that special moment, the connection is made.

In all my paintings and Rope Art works you will find aspects of who I am and what is important to me. Life is a string of many incredible beautiful moments, but also of setbacks. I had many crossroads in my life and had to make choices without knowing what this choice would entail. My Rope Artwork symbolizes exactly those crossroads with the path of life. Some of my paintings express exuberance, while others express peace and serenity, which is also a reflection of who I am.
